An Encounter in Art by Mary Cook
Mary considers herself privileged to have had an opportunity to paint a portrait of Sister Wendy Beckett, one of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Mary will tell the story of her encounter with Sister Wendy who led a remarkable life as a hermit devoted to prayer and meditation and yet she was also able to enjoy an extraordinary career as a television presenter and art historian. Mary is a keen meditator, and she also finds deep rest in the activity of painting.
Mary is a senior member of The School of Philosophy. She qualified with a Dip AD in Art at Goldsmiths School of Art and she has always managed to continue the practice of drawing and painting throughout a long marriage with 4 children and now 11 grandchildren.
